Blackberry crumble

The classic. Warm berries under an oat top, cream if you've earned it.

The classic, done right

Blackberry crumble is the payoff for a bramble-scratched afternoon. The trick is not much sugar — the berries are already sweet.

You'll need

blackberries 600 g, warm
apple 1, for body
flour, oats equal parts, with cold butter
sugar a little, and a little more

Method

Toss the berries with a light dusting of sugar and the sliced apple. Rub butter into flour and oats until sandy, pile on top, bake 40 minutes until the top is gold. Cream if you've earned it.
