Finding spots
Hedges, park edges, and the quiet half of the woods.
Where the wild food hides
You don't need deep wilderness. The best foraging is usually on the edge of things — hedgerows, park borders, and the margins of fields and paths.
Where to look
hedgerows blackberry, elder, sloe parks dandelion, wild garlic, nettle wood edge chanterelle, wild garlic, sorrel lanes rosehip, hawthorn, crab apple
Where not to
Busy roads (exhaust), sprayed verges, dog-walking routes, and anywhere signs say the land is private. Low spots beside water are fine; the leafier the spot, the cleaner the pick.
